Aspen, a 2-year-old Staffordshire terrier mix, has been voted the next Minnesota Energy Resources “ambassadog.”
This very good girl from Rochester now has the important responsibility of reminding people to call 811 at least two days before they dig.
People from across Minnesota cast more than 8,000 votes in this year’s safe digging photo contest, with Aspen coming out on top.
She’ll spend the next year as the star of a social media campaign designed to remind people to dig safely.

Aspen’s humans say she loves being outside and keeping an eye out for birds, ducks and squirrels. But her very favorite thing in the world is finding a good stick on her daily walks.
Aspen is the fifth Minnesota Energy Resources safe digging ambassadog. The company started the program in 2022 to help spread the important message about calling 811 before you dig.
About 811
Digging can be dangerous if you don’t call 811 at least two days in advance. Whether you’re planting a garden or installing a fence, it’s important to have the location of underground utilities marked to keep you and your family safe. Notifying Gopher State One Call is easy, it’s free and it’s the law.
